CCO — Your Communications & PR Lead

The CCO seat handles external messaging — press relations, public statements, crisis communications, and reputation management. It's the seat that controls what the outside world hears when your business speaks.

What the CCO Does

  • Press relations — draft press releases, build media lists, and craft pitches that get picked up. The CCO knows what journalists actually want.
  • Crisis communications — something went wrong? The CCO drafts the statement, maps stakeholders, and sequences outreach so you respond fast without making it worse.
  • Public statements — leadership transitions, product launches, policy changes. The CCO writes the official word and makes sure it's consistent everywhere.
  • Reputation management — monitor reviews, mentions, and public sentiment. Get alerted when the narrative shifts and get a response plan before it spirals.
  • Executive communications — speaking engagements, op-eds, investor letters, and public appearances. The CCO makes sure you sound like a leader.

How to Use It

"A customer left a brutal public review that's getting traction. How do we handle this?"

The CCO assesses the situation, drafts a public response, recommends whether to engage or let it pass, and coordinates with the CMO on brand positioning — so your response is strategic, not reactive.

What Makes This Seat Different

The CCO understands the difference between what's true and what people will believe. It doesn't just write statements — it thinks about audience, timing, and downstream impact. Every word is chosen for how it'll land, not just how it reads.

When the COO Calls the CCO

Any external-facing communication — especially during sensitive moments — routes here. The CCO works with the CMO to ensure marketing and PR tell the same story, and with the CLO to ensure public statements don't create legal exposure. You get one clear voice, not a chorus of contradictions.
